As indicated by the blog title, we’ll be calling her “Lazuli” (lah-zoo-lee), short for “Lapis Lazuli”.
You can read about this interesting rock/stone here, it has quite a history that I wasn’t aware of: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lapis_lazuli
We wanted a more family/kid friendly name for what will be our home for over a year. I was looking through Google for some blue coloured crystals/rocks to get inspiration and came across Lapis, and “Lazuli” as a name sounded interesting and a bit unique.
I mentioned just the word “Lazuli” to the girls, and after a pause of a few seconds they said “oh, you mean Lapis Lazuli?” and got very excited telling us in great detail about how it’s used in Minecraft (their favourite game).
“Lapis lazuli is a mineral required to enchant items in an enchanting table.”
You can read about that here: https://minecraft.fandom.com/wiki/Lapis_Lazuli
After that initial outburst of excitement we realised that the decision on the name had just been made, and it was too late to have anything else.
The girls (all three!) got some special Lapis Lazuli earrings as boat gifts, more excitement ensuing.
Now we just need to remove the old name and get the new one printed up and put on.
